Geography 

South Bend and Mishawaka are located along the St. Joseph River and approximately 30-35 miles from Lake Michigan, which heavily influences local weather patterns. St. Joseph County’s highest point is approximately 930 feet to the southwest of South Bend, near Lakeville.
