6 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day in The Bend

Coronavirus guidelines doesn’t mean Mother’s Day celebrations are on hold.

While continuing to keep our social distance means no visiting your favorite restaurant for brunch or big family gatherings, there are still ways to do a little something special for your mom on the holiday. Let’s consider some of the possibilities.

Order a Takeout Meal

What mom wants to cook for Mother’s Day? Answer: not many. If you want to take it off her to-do list, restaurants are still open for carryout and delivery. Some are even offering special Mother’s Day meal packages so nobody has to cook for the holiday. Check out our list of open partner restaurants or call your favorite place to see what they’re promoting for the holiday. Here are some notable options with Mother’s Day specials:

If you’re looking for more options, remember to call ahead to find out about a restaurant’s current hours and specials.

Sweet Treats

Who doesn’t love candy as a gift? Whether it’s some chocolates are hard candy, The Bend is home to a couple of local places with outsized reputations in the confectionary world — South Bend Chocolate Co. and Claeys Candy.

South Bend Chocolate’s store in downtown South Bend remains open (you can order carryout food as well) or you can order online. You can find Claeys Candy at stores and shops around the area.

Spa Treatment

Yes, spas are closed right now in light of the coronavirus pandemic. But a couple are getting creative for Mother’s Day, offering the opportunity to purchase gift cards and other retail items.

Pick Up a Bouquet of Flowers

There’s no need to wander out to the woods and pick your own bouquet (in fact, we definitely DO NOT recommend this strategy). Instead you can reach out to local florists and see if they’re open while following social distancing guidelines or offering curbside pickup.

If you choose these or another florist, be sure to call ahead to find out the latest protocols and offerings.

Shop Small for Mom

Jewelry and clothes — how can you go wrong? If you’re in the market for those, shop local at our array of boutiques. Browse the collections at Satori Boutique in Granger and Inspire Me! in South Bend online for some ideas.

The South Bend Farmers Market is another place for unique gifts, flowers and fresh food options.

If you’re shopping for someone that’s more into sports or history, check out what the South Bend Cubs or Studebaker National Museum have in their stores.

Explore the Outdoors

Active moms aren’t content with a gift — they want to head outside for hikes, biking some trails or maybe even a little golf. All those activities are socially distant and readily available around The Bend via our parks and courses.
