Summer isn’t quite over yet, but one of the sure signs of fall in The Bend is already here: Notre Dame football season.
It doesn’t seem so long ago that the Fighting Irish capped a magical, undefeated 2018 campaign with an appearance in the College Football Playoff. It was a season we won’t soon forget. And yet here we are preparing for another. As we look forward to the Fighting Irish kicking off their season at Louisville (8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2/ESPN), we know thousands of visitors have already planned their trips to The Bend to watch the most storied program in college football history at Notre Dame Stadium.

The home slate opens Sept. 14 against New Mexico. Virginia visits Sept. 28 followed by Bowling Green (Oct. 5), USC (Oct. 12), Virginia Tech (Nov. 2), Navy (Nov. 16) and Boston College Nov. 23). It’s another exciting home schedule that’s going to draw visitors from across the country and beyond. But from where, exactly?
We teamed up with Vivid Seats, Notre Dame’s official ticket marketplace, to produce this heat map (tap the map if you’re viewing it on mobile). It represents ticket purchases over a two-week period starting with the public on sale date for single-game tickets.
Fans are traveling from 49 states and at least four different countries. A closer look at the Vivid Seats data reveals some things you’d expect and a surprise or two.
- Alaska is the only state from which there hasn’t been a purchase (yet!).
- The top five states for purchases are Ohio, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania and California.
- The top selling game through Vivid Seats so far is Virginia at Notre Dame.
All this is to say The Bend is going to welcome visitors from all over the United States again this fall. Who else is ready for some football?
