Downtown South Bend hosts “First Fridays” on the first Friday of each month all year. Residents and visitors alike fill the streets for live music, movies and other entertainment.
It’s a great time to explore South Bend for activities and artist receptions. Often there are special one-night promotions at different shops, museums and restaurants. First Fridays are fun, family-friendly and free (or at a reduced admission rate). Each First Friday has a special theme, so be on the lookout for what’s coming next.

November 2 — Taste of the Town
Visitors can taste their way through a progressive dinner at different “flavor stops” throughout downtown. Each stop will have small plates for $5 or less. Ben’s Pretzels, Chicory Cafe, Edible Arrangements, South Bend Chocolate Cafe and Spirited plan to participate. South Bend Brew Werks, one of The Bend’s craft breweries, is releasing a new pumpkin-inspired beer that will be available for $5.
Chicory Cafe, South Bend Chocolate Cafe, LaSalle Kitchen & Tavern, Vegetable Buddies and Fiddler’s Hearth all plan to have live music. Kids can participate in a coloring contest at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe for a chance to help Santa light the downtown tree in December.
December 7 — Downtown for the Holidays
Santa makes his grand arrival in downtown. Enjoy a tree lighting ceremony, fireworks and the opening of Santa’s workshop.
