It’s More Than Just Singing; It’s More Than Just Acting:
Music Theater Workshop
This five-week course is a must for those wishing to pursue a music theater career, planning to
enter a university music theater program, and/or wanting to learn more about their voice and
potential. This course is also perfect for those who just want to have fun singing and acting!
From a vocal point of view, participants will learn better phonation (sound production) and
articulation (pronunciation), and in the process of these discoveries improve their tone, pitch, and
From an acting perspective, participants will learn how to be their character while learning how
to interpret their selections in two contexts: that of the actual musical and that of the concert hall.
The final (fifth) class will consist of a student performance with accompaniment.
At the end of this class, each participant will walk away with two finely honed music theater
selections that he or she will be prepared to offer at any audition or performance.
Classes will begin at 3 p.m. and will be held Wednesdays, June 10, 17, and 24; and July 1 and 8,
*If there are 1 to 4 students, class will run for 1 hour. If there are 5 to 8 students, class will run
for 2 hours. Whether the class is offered in real time or over the internet will be determined by
present existing conditions.
Michael Snyder is a voice instructor at The Music Village. He earned a Bachelor of Music
Degree in Vocal Performance at The Catholic University of America. He studied acting at the
Folger Shakespeare Library, and continued his vocal studies in England with Nancy Evans
Crozier. A classically trained lyric tenor, he has acted in straight plays; appeared in sitcoms;
performed experimental theater roles; sung principal roles in musical theater, opera, and operetta;
and has given recitals. He spent many years as a church musician.
