Directed by Fred Zinnemann
With Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones, Gloria Grahame
Rated Approved, 145 minutes, DCP

Set in pre-statehood Oklahoma where there’s beautiful mornings, beautiful days, and feelings that things are going to go your way, this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical hit the stages in 1943 before being adapted for film in 1955. Following two romantic storylines, the story doesn’t drift far from what you may have seen performed in your high school gym converted into an auditorium. On the farmer side of things, Curly (Gordon MacRae) is a hardheaded cowboy whose feelings for the stubborn Laurey (Shirley Jones) are compounded by the farmhand Jud (Rod Steiger). Meanwhile in cowboy country, Ado Annie (Gloria Grahame) is torn between a peddler and the rancher Will (Gene Nelson).
