Get ready to dive into some of the best entertainment The Bend has to offer.

Best. Week. Ever., a weeklong collection of experiences across South Bend, is set for May 28-June 3. This unique event is an opportunity to celebrate the city – its culture, progress, creativity and community – with everything from art festivals to concerts to kid friendly activities.

Let’s take a closer look at some headline events on the schedule. They’re sure to grab your attention.

South Bend Cubs
May 28 | 2:05 p.m. | Four Winds Field

Nothing says Memorial Day quite like baseball. You can watch America’s pastime at a venue tabbed last year as the best Single-A ballpark in the country by BallparkDigest.com. All active duty and military veterans receive two free tickets to the game and the first 500 fans through the gates will score a collectible South Bend Cubs poster. Before settling in for the game, be sure to look toward the sky as a flyover is planned. If one game just isn’t enough, the Cubs will be back at Four Winds Field from June 1-3 for another homestand.

90s Night Concert
May 31 | Doors open at 5 p.m. | Four Winds Field

Go back (just a little bit) in time with 90s Night, which will feature three bands that came of age during that era of alternative rock. Gin Blossoms will headline the show. Their single “Hey Jealousy,” released in 1993 before rising to No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, ushered in mainstream success for the band.  Fellow 90s mainstays Sister Hazel and TONIC, plus local band Blammo, will join Gin Blossoms for the show, making for a night that is sure to be heavy on songs that stir nostalgia and get people out of their seats. Or both.

East Race Rafting
June 1-3 | Times vary | 126 S. Niles Ave.

Do you like getting your heart rate up a little bit? Do you also like things that don’t cost a dime? Then you might want to visit the East Race Waterway during the dates above. There will be free whitewater rafting down the first man-made course built in North America. The course runs about 1,900 feet and produces Class 2 rapids right in the heart of downtown South Bend. You don’t want to miss this chance to experience the East Race!

Riverlights Music Festival
June 1-2 | 3-10 p.m. (June 1); noon-10 p.m. (June 2) | 121 S. Niles Ave.

Check out the River Lights Music Festival!

One night of music not quite enough? You’re in luck. Riverlights Music Festival is back and, even better, it’s FREE! Riverlights brings together artists, community leaders and local businesses to highlight South Bend as a prime live music city. It will shine a spotlight on local artists with mainstage shows along the St. Joseph River. And there’s more: Food vendors will be available on Niles Avenue, plus alcoholic beverages for those over 21 years of age. It’s sure to be two days of unforgettable shows.

Sunburst Races
June 2 | First race begins at 6:30 a.m. | 525 S. Lafayette Blvd.

If you’ve ever wanted to run through the tunnel at Notre Dame Stadium used by the football team, this is the event for you. Sunburst is offering four events for its 35th edition: The half marathon, 10K run, 5K run and 5K fitness walk. The starting line is just east of Four Winds Field in downtown South Bend. Participants then make their way through the city, onto Notre Dame’s campus and finish at the gridiron’s 50-yard line. Not going to run or walk an event? There are other experiences too – you can cheer on runners, enjoy a scavenger hunt at Notre Dame or stop at a booth sponsored by Bradley Company for yard games and prize giveaways.

Rum Village Adventure Day
June 3 | 1-6 p.m. | Rum Village Park

Rum Village Park takes center stage June 3 with a day full of adventure for all ages, plus food and music. Get up in the air at the Edge Adventures Aerial Park, which will have a one-course experience just for Best. Week. Ever. There will also be pony rides, a rock climbing wall, guided nature hikes and a chance to meet some of the critters living in the park. Rum Village has a little something for everybody.

These events are just a partial list of all the goings on during Best. Week. Ever. If you’d like to know more about everything planned, check out the full website with a day-by-day schedule. We’ll see you around The Bend!
