THERE IS LOVE IN THE AIR. Valentine’s Day is all about spending time with your significant other and showing them how much you care— from chocolates and jewelry to a date that will be remembered for years. If you are still looking for something fun and romantic to do this Valentine’s Day then you should check out these eight date ideas in The Bend.

1) East Bank Emporium / River Lights

South Bend River Lights

Enjoy the beauty of downtown South Bend with dinner at the East Bank Emporium Restaurant where large windows offer gorgeous views of the St. Joseph River and the city itself. After dinner, go see the interactive South Bend River Lights (Pictured Above) near Seitz Park and watch the river come to life with color as you share a Valentine’s Day kiss.

2) Ice Skating at Compton Family Ice Arena

Take a trip to the Compton Family Ice Arena for an afternoon of skating. Don’t know how to skate? No worries, there will be no judgement at the Lefty Smith Rink for Noon Public Skate. Imagine you and your loved one holding hands as you skate around the ice… how romantic! Then imagine you losing your balance and pulling your loved one down to the ice as you both fall… how hysterical!

3) Movie Night

Maybe you and your Valentine are avid movie-goers. If so, Cinemark Movies 14 in Mishawaka is a great spot to grab some popcorn and watch a film. Cinemark Movies 14 offers cozy, recliner seating as well as alcoholic beverages so kick back and enjoy a nice cold beer or delicious glass of wine while you are at the movies.

4) Strikes and Spares

There is plenty to do at Strikes and Spares Entertainment Center. Play a game of bowling, a round of glow-in-the-dark mini golf, or try your hand at the go-karts. This is a great date spot for couples young and old.

5) Fine Dining in The Bend

One of the most classic Valentine’s Day dates is going out for a nice dinner. Downtown South Bend has some tremendous spots where you two loved birds can go for a delicious meal in a romantic setting.

Dine in at LaSalle Grill where every meal is prepared with the utmost care and each bite of your dinner is filled with flavor. Café Navarre (Pictured Above) is another great fine dining option in downtown South Bend where the international cuisine makes choosing just one entrée for dinner a seemingly impossible task. Café Navarre is also a cool dinner spot as it was located inside a former downtown bank. If you want another unique venue for dinner, look no further than Tippecanoe Place Restaurant. What was once the famous Studebaker family mansion has been given new life as a fine dining experience like none other. The tasty items throughout the menu will have your mouth watering the moment your food is brought out.

6) South Bend Chocolate CaféChocolate

The South Bend Chocolate Café (Pictured Above) in downtown South Bend is a great spot for couples to go if they have a sweet tooth for dessert. Caramels, turtles and even some chocolate with real flakes of gold are all at this chocolate lover’s paradise. There are also some great gift baskets available too so if you are running around at the last moment and don’t know what to get your Valentine, grab a hand-made South Bend Chocolate Gift Basket!

7) Snow Tubing Anyone?

After dessert, head out to St. Patrick’s County Park for an evening of Valentine’s Day snow tubing. Race down the hill against other couples or race your significant other! You will zoom across the new fallen snow under the lights of the park. If you want to take a break from tubing, you can warm up by the fire with some hot cocoa to warm the body and the soul.

8) Take a Stroll Around Notre Dame

Grotto at Notre Dame

Do not complicate the simple. Buy a couple of hot chocolates from Kilwin’s Chocolates & Ice Cream and go for a walk around the University of Notre Dame. Walk around the two lakes of campus or even stop by the Grotto (Pictured Above) to light a candle together — many couples have gotten engaged at the Grotto just in case you wanted to make your Valentine’s Day this year one you won’t ever forget.

Rest Your Head in The Bend

No need to travel back home on Valentine’s Day when you can stay overnight at any one of the quaint bed and breakfasts in The Bend. From a Victorian mansion built in the 1800s to a Queen Anne-style home featuring Celtic influences in every guest room, these places to stay offer more than just a bed and a hot meal, their charm and history are the final pieces to your perfect Valentine’s Day.
